The hook and
loop fastener was invented in 1948 by Georges de Mestral, a Swiss engineer.
The idea came to him after he took a close look at the burdock seeds that
kept sticking to his clothes and his dog's fur on their daily walk in
the Alps. De Mestral named his invention "VELCRO" after the
French words velours, meaning 'velvet', and crochet, meaning 'hook'. Hook
and loop fasteners consist of two layers: a "hook" side, which
is a piece of fabric covered with tiny hooks, and a "loop" side,
which is covered with even smaller and "hairier" loops.
In 2005, Tietex was granted a patent from the US Patent Office for a
new and innovative loop technology that has become known as TLS (the Tietex
Loop System). TLS is a technology whereby loops of yarn are precisely
and securely embedded in a plastic film. It is this method and precision
of loop formation that ensures consistent product performance and low
cost. Since its introduction, TLS has received the closest attention from
the disposable diaper and hygiene markets.
In addition to TLS, we continue to develop a wide spectrum of other loop
materials to create unique and customized solutions for this highly technical
market segment.
